About Brent Kerrigan, Owner of Global Speechwriter

Brent Kerrigan, head of Global Speechwriter: a European executive speechwriting and strategic communications consultancy.

Raised on a Canadian farm, my early life was filled with manual labor, voracious reading, and writing. Self-funded through school, I journeyed from working on farms to becoming a newspaper editor in the Northwest Territories. My adventures took me from the cold to Mexico City's vibrant writing scene, then back to Canada where I found my calling in speechwriting for the government (Transport Canada and Agriculture Canada).

This path eventually to the United States, Mexico and Germany, where I founded the first iteration of the Global Speechwriter.

In 2017, my career took a big turn when I joined UN Climate Change in Bonn as their head speechwriter. Over five years, I played a pivotal role in shaping the organization’s narrative during critical moments, including the U.S. withdrawal from the Paris Agreement and the COVID-19 pandemic, producing over 1,000 speeches. I wrote for three Executive Secretaries and senior officials, and provided speechwriting contributions to the UN Secretary-General.

I relaunched Global Speechwriter in 2024 because I am convinced that if the big global climate change and environmental agreements established in the last decade are to truly benefit humanity, we must unleash climate action on the ground — now. By improving the way we communicate, we can inspire change, transform businesses and create not only a better future, but a more sustainable, resilient and prosperous today.

As for today, I am based in Geneva, Switzerland along with Mexican diplomat Miriam Medel Garcia and our two amazing daughters: Maya and Aurora.
